HIMAX professional battery manufacturer, reminds us that the battery management system plays a vital role in battery applications. The BMS has four major functions: overcharge, over-discharge, over-current, and reverse connection protection (short circuit protection).
- Overcharge protection function: When a certain voltage is reached, the charger is prohibited from continuing to charge. The MOS tube that controls overcharge enters a shutdown state and stops charging.
- Over-discharge protection function: When the battery output voltage becomes low, it stops discharging the load. The MOS tube that controls over-discharge enters a shutdown state and prohibits discharge. This process is exactly the opposite of the action during overcharge detection.
- Overcurrent protection function: Stop discharging the load when a large current is detected, effectively protecting the battery and MOS tube and ensuring the safety of the battery in the discharge state. After over-current detection, the battery will return to normal after being separated from the load and can be charged or discharged.
- Short circuit protection function: When the maximum allowed output current is exceeded, the MOS tube that controls over-discharge enters shutdown and cuts off the discharge circuit of the battery core to ensure the safety of the battery and electrical appliances.
- In addition, HINAX BMS also supports thermal management and communication functions.
