Ni-MH Battery

The rechargeable sealed Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) cell absorbs hydrogen in the metal alloy makeup of its negative electrode during charge. As the cell is discharged, the metal alloy releases hydrogen to form water.
The use of the metal alloy is the underlying reason for the high energy density of the NiMH cell compared to other chemistries. NiMH batteries have a long cycle life and good storage characteristics.


NiMH batteries have a safer chemistry compared to some other types of rechargeable batteries, such as lithium-based batteries. They are less prone to thermal runaway and fire if mishandled or damaged. Safety and environmental friendliness, making them well-suited for a variety of applications ranging from consumer electronics to electric vehicles.
NiMH batteries can be charged using a charger specifically designed for NiMH batteries. Charging should be done at a moderate rate to prevent overheating and overcharging, which can reduce battery lifespan.
Nickel Metal Hydride batteries, are a type of rechargeable battery that uses a nickel hydroxide cathode, a hydrogen-absorbing alloy anode (hence the name “metal hydride”), and an alkaline electrolyte. They are commonly used as a replacement for disposable alkaline batteries in various applications due to their rechargeable nature and environmental benefits.
The lifespan of batteries is usually determined by the number of charge-discharge cycles and usage conditions, generally lasting from hundreds to thousands of cycles. The usage duration varies depending on the frequency of use and number of recharges but typically lasts for several years.
Ni-MH batteries are relatively resistant to memory effect, but it’s best to avoid frequent partial discharges. It’s advisable to periodically perform full discharges to help manage the battery.
